Karen fighters in Burma

The cursed people of the Salween River.
By the thousands, the Karens are fleeing their land. Driven out of
their villages by the Burmese army, men, women and children wander in the forest, without
livelihoods and under the threat of antipersonnel mines. This minority
ethnic - seven million people - is cursed by the military junta of Rangoon
who wants to quell all attempts at identity. The upcoming construction of three
hydroelectric dams on the Salween River, will flood Karen country, and justify
ethnic cleansing. The Karen people who, for more than fifty years, have resisted the
Burmese generals are cornered. Neighboring Thailand cannot accommodate them all.
Especially since the country finances the dams which will provide it with electricity
essential to maintain strong economic growth.
